What documents do I need for RICA?

Proof of identity: bring one #

• South African green barcoded ID book
• South African smart ID card
• Valid passport for foreign nationals
• Asylum seeker permit or refugee identity document

Proof of residence: bring one #

• Bank statement
• Municipal rates or taxes invoice
• Official university residence letter or lease agreement
• Retail account statement
• Affidavit from a landlord or residence manager if you live with someone else

Important rules #

• Your proof of residence should be no older than 3 months.
• All documents must be clear and legible.
• Your SIM cannot be activated until RICA is successful.

If you are living in res or student accommodation, an official residence letter is often the easiest win.
